Most skinny men ( myself included ) are worried about their appearance when meeting people.
When we meet people for the first time, our appearance is most influential in what kind of impression we will leave behind.
Doesn’t matter if we like it or not, subconsciously, people judge others based on how they look and will almost certainly make assumptions based on our outward appearance.
So, what can you do to leave a strong first impression and show strength of character or leadership when you first meet someone?
For one, you can hit the gym, bulk up and have an imposing presence.
But, you don’t have to be physically strong or bulked up to leave a good, strong first impression.
If you are a skinny guy, like me, just follow these handful of tips that will boost your overall appearance and presence.
No matter what your body type is, proper well-fitted clothes are vital in becoming a well dressed man. Most skinny men opt for clothes that are bigger in size, thinking they will bulk up visually.
But skinny men actually benefit from wearing clothes that are exactly their size. You don’t want to leave any room between your skin and your shirt/t-shirt, but don’t go for skin-tight shirts and t-shirts as well.
Avoid skinny jeans. Chances are you are not well-built in your legs and wearing skinny jeans will make you look like you are wearing leggings instead, it just isn’t attractive. If you opt for jeans, regular or slim fit jeans are your best choice.
Colors and Patterns
Darker colors tend to emphasize the body and even make it slimmer. Lighter colors on the other hand, have the opposite effect.
So if you are skinny, make sure you wear lighter colors, such as white, beige, light-grey or light-blue. Avoid wearing vertical stripped clothing, as it will further elongate your skinny body. Instead, wear plaid or checkered shirts and solid, plain t-shirts.
You can’t always wear lighter colors, especially in the winter, so switching to darker colors and adding more layers to your outfit will make you look just a bit bigger.
Remember to go from lighter to darker colors when adding layers and don’t go overboard with layers too. You don’t want to go out wearing a couple sweaters on top of each other and hope to have the desired effect.
A simple shirt and sweater will work nicely. Or a short-sleeved t-shirt and a plaid shirt on top will also make you look good.
If you can, add a blazer on top to complement your outfit. Not only will it add more class to your outfit, but will actually broaden your shoulders.
The padding on the blazer creates a sharper edge on your shoulders, making you look broader.
During the winter you can also opt for turtleneck sweaters. Not only will it make you look beefier, but will also keep you warm without adding many layers.
Different men prefer different styles, but you should always dress to flatter your body regardless of your body type.
If you wear clothes that flatter your body, you will create a stronger image and as a result will actually feel stronger too.
