The Only Three Pairs of Shoes a Man Truly Needs

Surely, there is a closet where a number of impulsive and regretted purchases are kept. After all, what person has not had sneakers that have cost an arm and a leg and just sit there because of not being worn? That particular industry is aimed at selling its products to indecisive people and FOMO. Nevertheless, as a graduate student, one has to accept minimalism as one does not have any money and enough space to store stuff.

First of all, everyone needs a pair of white leather sneakers. One can choose the luxurious ones if one has a trust fund and the affordable ones otherwise. Sneakers are the means through which one attempts to look decent while attending seminars and hiding the fact that he or she tries to maintain a social life. Leather goes well with almost anything from chinos to the one pair of jeans that is washed religiously. Canvas sneakers should be avoided since not only they get torn easily but also look childish.

Second, it is vital to have a pair of desert or Chelsea boots of dark tan or brown suede. They are needed to hide the fact that someone is wearing a university hoodie everywhere – on a date, to a conference, and in case the weather turns gray and gloomy. The older and more worn out they are, the better. The only thing that one has to do is to spray them with some protection once a year and hope for the best.

Finally, everyone needs a pair of running shoes that are to be used for running. The library is not the place for such sneakers. They should be always tied and near the door as one day, they will be needed in order to release stress. Everyone needs to move in order to feel mentally healthy and one’s knees need arch support. One does not run in college sneakers in classes. It is totally unacceptable.

That is all. The three kinds of sneakers are suitable for any situation that a graduate student may face. There is no reason to buy boots that one cannot walk in or limited editions that one is afraid to crease. One’s bank account bleeds while the floor space in one’s tiny apartment begs for mercy. Stick to the three and save some money for books. 😊
